In the Islamic Center "Sultan Ahmed" in Zenica, the ceremonial awarding of the "Plaket Muderris Muhamed Seid-ef. Serdarević" was held tonight.
The winner of this recognition for the year 2025 is Šefik Kurdić, a longtime professor at the Islamic Pedagogical Faculty in Zenica, a prominent intellectual and the author of the 61st book.
The professor described this recognition as extremely important in his biography, both because of the fact that the Community recognized his work in this way, and because of the significance that Serdarević's name represents.
– Serdarević is our great scholar who, with all that he did, was one of the reformers here in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We inherit our tradition as it is thanks to such people, which is why the recognition has special weight – said Professor Kurdić.
The recognition also has additional symbolism, given that it was awarded immediately after the professor's retirement.
- I see this award as the crown of what I did previously, from teaching at the university, through work in the field, to writing books - pointed out Professor Kurdić.
By awarding this award, the Islamic community seeks to affirm the value of knowledge and learning, as well as the value of articulating Islam in a rational and open way.
- Muhammed Seid Sredarević, through his actions, set an ideal, and we want to affirm some people who came closest to that ideal.
One of them is certainly Professor Kurdić – said the mufti and hafiz of Zenica, Prof. Dr. Mevludin Dizdarević.
He also pointed out that this recognition is also a reminder of the importance of the connection between knowledge and belief.
- Faith without knowledge is crippled, knowledge without faith is blind. One and the other can only bear the true fruits of their content together - emphasized Mufti Dizdarević.
The importance of the connection between these two components was also pointed out by Hafiz Dr. Elvir Duranović, noting that we live in a time in which knowledge and science are trying to separate themselves from its source, Allah, the Almighty.
- With this recognition, attention is drawn to the fact that the knowledge a person possesses comes from the Almighty Allah, the Exalted, and that knowledge should be acquired in His name, and for the benefit of people. In this way, what has been learned can be practically applied - said dr. Duranović.
As highlighted during the program, works written by professors like Šefik Kurdić have shaped today's understanding of Islam in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"Professor Kurdić, with his work and written word, continued those paths and directions that Muhamed Seid Serdarević set a hundred and a half years ago," said the chief imam of MIZ Zenica, M.Sc. Sumedin-ef. The keel.
